"Yamabuki Kai" is a mikoshi (portable shrine) uniion belonging Matsuo Taisha Shrine,
and based in Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto.
We have a mikoshi procession on every first Sunday of September,
the day of Hassakusai (a first fruits harvest celebration).
As you may know, it is very difficult for women
to participate in a festival in Kyoto.
However, through the kind offices of Matsuo Taisha Shrine,
we could establish a mikoshi union consisting of only women in 1997.

At first, we had borrowed a mikoshi for children from affliated shrine of
Matsuo Taisha Shrine.
With 1300 anniversary of Matsuo Taisha Shrine in 1999,
we made our own mikoshi in 2000.
This realized our wish of adding a new page to the history.
Thanks to the cooperation of a large number of people,
now we have a great mikoshi, larger and heavier than before.

Yamabuki Kai is still growing up.
We hope to inherits the matsuri tradition
with participants in a festival and local people.
